Week 6 - Alternative Assignment

Since Lion & The Cosmic Fish is a band, I analyzed musical acts that are well known as well as those that have a smaller local following.  The first band I looked at was The Black Keys, a well known blues rock band with a large Facebook presence.  They have over 4 million likes, merchandise with links to purchase on the homepage, the latest tour information, and videos/updates from the members of the band.  There is a definite effective use of their Facebook, there are frequent posts and a lot of engagement.  They are a famous and professional band, so the content is high quality and user friendly.  For my page I'd like to add a merchandise section and post more videos which would help reach more people.

The next band I checked out was Taken By Canadians, an up and coming band from Oceanside, California.  They have an active Facebook page with about 1600 likes.  The content is well done for a smaller group, the images are quality and their new music video seems professional and attention grabbing.  They have a merchandise link, upcoming shows tab, and links to other pages where you can find their music and bio.   There is a post about every two weeks with band information or interesting clips.  To be more effective the page could be set up a bit more professionally, and their clips could be better quality.  The band should also focus on gaining more followers to increase the reach of their content.  As a local act they have a good Facebook page set up and presence, something the LCF page needs to work on.  A professional music video is also necessary content to post on the page.

The art metal group GWAR was the last band I analyzed.  The band is a popular underground artistic and musical act with over 390k followers on Facebook.  The page set up is organized with merchandise on top, tour dates bellow that, and then new posts from the band.  They post daily or every other day, and the content is eye catching videos or drawings.  GWAR has a specific target and fan-base, so their messages and content are geared toward them.  I think they use FB effectively and appeal to their market fan-base.  I would take the idea of focusing on a niche market of music lovers to apply to LCF, and make more interesting posts that would appeal to the fans.  The LCF page also needs to gain more followers in other areas to stir up interest for a future tour.
